Lorna Agyare
I’m currently attending the Savannah College of Art and Design on a B.F.A, majoring in Jewelry Design. I was born in the United Kingdom and raised in Texas with a Ghanaian background. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been around geometric objects. Geometric objects are seen as earthbound and play an important role in art. Geometric shapes are part of everyday things like buildings, cars, and machines. I have witnessed my parents love of contemporary furniture and Bauhaus design. Furthermore, I have observed geometric objects in my study of art. The repetition of squares and other geometric styles appeal to my eye. Geometric illusion has a presence in my cultural background which includes African traditional patterns symbol western culture and my everyday life. One of my inspiration is Kente cloth which is a colorful geometric patterned  cloth traditionally woven by hand in Ghana. The Kente cloth  has strong use of repetition of geometric shapes, lines and diversity that creates an interesting illusion in  the fabric. For the series work I incorporated a list of materials like wood, ancient bronze, and leather. I decided to make bolo ties reflected being raised in Texas.
